We got the wood!

I went to Woodworks in Newington over Thanksgiving break and got a block of basswood- a wood material slightly harder than balsa. I took it to school and in second flex we went down to Mr. Balkus's woodshop and cut it in the shape of a clipper ship half hull, with the help of Mr. Balkus! Afterwards I sanded and filed the wood with Julia and Ricky to smooth the edges and to make it more ship-like and nice-looking.
We also are doing videos, but haven't really put them all together so we need to do a lot more. The videos focus on the information in a way that keep the viewer interested. They feature everyone, but mostly Zach and Ricky.
In the next post I will talk about the history of clipper ships.

We are changing our game plan.

We've decided to scratch doing a clipper ship model. It's too hard and we have too little time. Instead, we are going to make a half hull of a clipper ship that originated in Newburyport. We will carve/cut it out of balsa wood and will paint it to make it look nice and official.
Ricky and I (Fiona) have a bit of homework to do- we are reading about clipper ships and writing down notes to gather information about them. I still haven't done it, and I bet Ricky hasn't either. But you never know. xP
Alright, well, I better get going on that today. Adios!

A Little About Our Project

Julia, Ricky, Zachary, and I- Fiona, are conducting a three week science project on the ship models that war prisoners made long ago to buy food. We are going to go into detail about that by visiting the Maritime Museum and gathering information, and are going to attempt to make a model like the war prisoners made- even with hair. Some things we will have to compromise, however, but we do not know just what we have to compromise yet.
Hopefully it will be a success!
